Shorty's 12th Nov 14+15th

Postby Dropshot on Thu Aug 27, 2009 3:21 pm

Apparently it is a two day event with qualifying on Sat and finals on Sunday. They don't say much of what each consists of but I e-mailed them with a few questions for more info and a few suggestions. Like don't use a 128 person paper bracket and try to read it in a dark corner of the bar. Anyway if and when I get any more info I will post it. They say they are giving away a 'Vintage Pinball Machine' so it will be some shitty em or old solid state. Oh well, let's win it anyway!

Yeah, last year Eden was saying how he was going to be on their case about updating the bracket system. Let's hope he succeeds.

Eden has no pull at Shorty's he is canadian and canadians are worthless. It's up to Deathsave, Maka, Nycole, Elijah and anyone else I don't know that plays there frequently.

harsh words from a hockey player!

next time i see ewoud i'll pick his brain about the format. 100 people showing up and trying to qualify in 6 hours sounds like a disaster.

Im not calling Eden worthless.....just canadians. Yeah the whole system he has seems messed up. The only way all those people could qualify which I don't know how you would do that in a head to head tournament unless you just make it a two day tournament or is if he just picks who qualifies which wouldn't surprise me either.

last I heard the "qualifying" was not really that in the pinball sense of the term - What I was told is that it is the standard shorty's tournament just spread over two days. That is, they are going to try and whittle the head to head bracket down to 64 or 32 people the first day, and play the rest out the next day.

That is kinda what I figured but why not just use a computer start 2 hours earlier and finish in one day.

I don't know precisely why but I just kind of assumed DropShot was Canadian.
So much for a friendly topic...

Hey Aaron, I can bring down some Molson Canadian to Shortys, or next time I'm in Portland... how worthless is THAT!?! ;)

Regarding the Shorty's 2-day deal... you're right about me having no pull. I can comment and recommend, but this is totally Larry's gig, and I honestly wouldn't want it any other way than what HE wants... Much respect to him.

Yes, it would be way easier on computer, YES I'm still going to recommend it, and YES it's even better if Jeff or Cayle can 'softly' convince Shorty's / Larry to do so... which I honestly think could happen (convincing them that is!)

Still, with upwards of 128 people, a 2-day thing really works well for Shorty's with 17 machines in there. Even if we started 'early' like noonish? (That means sign up at 10 or 11!?!) We could still go to 2 or 3 AM, and it gets a little late at that point. Not that I couldn't handle that, but the 2 day thing makes it a lot easier IMO.

Hey Portlanders. I got a bus if we want to roll up like a gang of school kids, could probably fit a wedghead in there too and if we get a big inverter and a spare car battery could be balling on the road. But yeah, even if I could get 10 people that would make gas around $15 or so per person round trip.

Sauce - that sounds amazing. I would be in as well. I think TSPP would be an appropriate game for the trip, and Sauce - you will be our Otto.

So I can legally take 15 people, and have seating 12 or so, but there is a lot of open space in the bus. Probably gonna plan on leaving Portland sometime after 6pm friday night, come back late sunday. If anyone wants to look into hotel/motel group rates that might be a good idea as well.
