Cornhole is something that is happening all over the country and now it’s come to Portland. It’s a great game and super fun to play. This is the first tournament in Portland and is only a start for game here in the northwest.
What is Cornhole?
It has been called many things, Corn Toss, Bean Bag, Bean Toss, Soft Horseshoes, Indiana Horseshoes, but to many of us born and raised in Kentucky and the southern part of Ohio, the game is passionately referred to as Cornhole.

It has been said that the game originated in Germany in the 14th century, and then was rediscovered in the hills of Kentucky over 100 years ago.

Cornhole or Corn Toss is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. Contestants take turns pitching their corn bags at the cornhole platform until a contestant reaches the score of 21 boints. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 boints, while one on the platform scores 1 point.

Scoring can be swift and the lead may change hands several times in a match before the winner is decided. The game is generally played tournament style with an individual or team being named the champion at the end of the tournament.

I've been playing "Oakie Horseshoes" since I was a kid (what does that statement say about me?). It's kinda like a distant cousin of cornhole. Basically you throw washers at a board with a hole in it. Great way to class up a party. I'd wager my oakie skills would translate rather well to cornhole, but unfortunately I'm out of town tomorrow. Also, if you ever get a chance to play "Ladder Golf" I highly recommend it.

Fred . . . Aaron. . . destroy e'm!

Yeah, we call Okie Horseshoes Washers, and we call ladder golf slapnuts! Too bad you're out of town, cause first place is a pretty sweet payout!

Allllllright, well as soon as we're finished moving into the new place I'm sure there will be a housewarming party. CFF'ers will be invited and "Washers" and "Slapnuts" will be played by all.

About 17 blocks from our old place. 17th and morgan (2 blocks north of Dekum). Drive in garage with um . . . a very long wall. Electrician is coming next week - expect a pin party to follow shortly after :D
