Bally/ Stern owners! 5101 RAM replacement.

Hi, so at the NW Show I attended Lindsey Rupertus' (of WarpZoneArcade.com) seminar on early Bally/Stern mpu repair. It was rad and he was handing out some goodies, including this small board with a modern NVRAM chip that is a direct plug and play replacement for 5101 RAM chips, which often just go bad with age. My Centaur was having some memory issues, put this one in and my issues were solved! Also, when installed, you don't need batteries anymore, or battery holders. The chips are specced to hold their memory for 45 years. I just emailed Lindsey about ordering some, I want one for my Mata Hari, he said the first one is $27 and every additional one is $22, including shipping. Anyone want some and want to go in on a group order?

NO MORE BATTERIES!

I wonder if this would help my Xenon. It has a memory capacitor, but it only saves high score and settings for about a day.

Could be! I was having pretty much the same issue with Centaur, even with fresh batteries. Also make sure to check for corrosion around the 5101 and its socket.

It's actually a pretty good deal seeing as though it's a plug 'n play replacement. Costs about twice as much as a new battery pack and 5101 . . . but requires no work. Very cool that he created these.

I too have already done the battery pack work, so no need to "undo" it all.
