A Second Opinion

giving them more credit than they're due

Any CFF’er could’ve taken those chomos with one hand. Puh-leez.

Thoughts on The Standard– wicked strong wicked cheap drinks. major plus. limpwristed midieval madness– yuck. none of the games felt *great* though slingshot shredded on theater and i had a fun game on there where i barely tried to trap the ball and was still looping shots. good times.

Thoughts on a member who shall not be named peeing in the bushes: our territory is marked. consider those bushes the property of CFfucknF! CFF’s urine: the initials on the backglass of the world.

We need to hold another tournament soon. How about the Friday or Saturday after next. Location? Format?

You should start the tournament after 10 so Slingshot can make it.

we need to have a totally rawkus afterhours tournament. we’ll take hostages from rival schools beforehand and the winner gets to take first pee. that’s some ghetto-ass gangster shit. i keep a razor under my tongue in case i gotta slash you. prizes paid in crack rocks and stolen merch steada cash.

Yeah, you don’t need to trap to loop in Theatre. All the shots are in expected places – at least I’ve found. And there are only so many variations on the rebounds. Trapping actually ends up messing me up in that game.

man, i strongly disagree. theater is one of the more accuracy dependent games i’ve found to really get lit up– it just has great flow. like a lot of more slapper-friendly games (bash, spidey, MM, sopranos, johnny mnemonic) you can loop a lot of shots without stopping because the angles are good and shots flow together really easily without you needing to slow the ball to make some other shot consistently– but if you really want to open the game up you’ve got to trap, pass, and aim, especially because so many modes are timed. plus you can keep multiball going for a good while if you’re careful. i’ve only gotten grand finale once on that game, and i didn’t finish it because i got nervous/unlucky and couldn’t slow down and aim enough. however, you can get really good scores just by wailing on the theater loop and collecting that bonus again and again.

I put up 3.6m on the theatre at standard, and completed grand finale in that game, and during the finale mode I don’t think I trapped once. And during my multiballs I hit jackpot 4-6 times each, with very little trapping. I just make sure to loop one or two balls while I use the remaining to hit the chest. I finished finale mode without missing a single shot (it took about twenty seconds): started with center ramp (an easy shot), then it feeds to the left flipper so you can shoot the right ramp (which I think is way easier to hit after the ball comes down the inlane, compared to if it was trapped), then it feeds to the right flipper, you hit the center loop, and then when it loops around you hit the left loop (an easy combo). I think the hardest shot in the game is the far right loop. But I have the most luck with it when the ball is rolling from the left inlane.

So, no, if you really want to open up the game, you don’t have to trap, pass, and aim. Mode shots: bumpers (get to them from the left or right loop – easy to hit those shots on the fly, especially hitting the left loop after it comes down from the right side), magic chest (can be hit from left or right flipper – doesn’t require a whole lot of aiming… it’s just to the left of center), captive ball (yeah, sort of easier to hit from a ball trapped on the right flipper.. but still a simple shot), right loop (I hit it best with speed from the left inlane), spinner (probably easiest hit from a ball trapped in left flipper, but not a hard shot at any rate), center ramp (easy shot from the left flipper).

I find that there’s a lot of weird spin going on in theatre, and that the area around the flippers is usually sort of sticky. I think it’s too unpredictable to rely on too much flipper control.

yeah, my reply could have just been “a.k.a. we are expressing mostly opinion and personal experience. no one and everyone is right. also, play a lot and be lucky enough to put it all together once in a while.” ah well.
